1. Q. Are churches and ministries automatically tax exempt?

A. Churches are automatically tax exempt, and need not to file taxes nor file 990's reports to the Internal Revenue Service. Churches must establish a separate 501(c)(3) called an Public Benefit 501(c)(3) integrated auxiliary in order to be eligible for 100% of grants and exempt from filing 990's.

2. Q. How many tax exempt organizations are there?

A. There are 29 plus 501(c) tax exempt organizations including 501(c)(3).

3. Q. Are churches eligible for grants?

A. Without the Public Benefit 501(c)(3), veteran organizations and churches are ineligible for 98% of grants.

4. Q. Can I receive a grant from governmental agencies without a 501(c)(3)?

A. Organizations must have a 501(c)(3) public benefit corporation to become eligible for governmental grants. This is also needed to obtain tax exemption, contributions, and private grants.

5. Q. Is there more than one type of non-profit corporation?

A. There are three types of non-profit benefit corporations:

1) Religious 2) Mutual 3) Public Benefits.

6. Q. What is a Corporation?

A. A corporation is person or legal entity who is incorporated in the state and who is authorized to transact business in the state. No one else may have its name. It can borrow, sue and file bankruptcy.

7. Q. What are Board of Directors?

A. The Board of Directors are the policy makers for the corporation. They cannot be sued, indicted, arrested or sentenced for any illegal act of the corporation.

8. Q. What does 501(c)(3)?

A. 501(c)(3) means; no taxes, and you can receive contributions and grants. You are exempt from federal, state, county, city, business license, sales and other taxes.

9. Q. What are grants, and what percentages can a corporation normally give to tax-exempt organizations?

A. Grants (free money): All corporations can give 5% of its net assets to Public Benefit corporations in order to maintain its tax-exempt status.

10. Q. How many dollars are available for Faith Based and Non-Profit organizations?

A. There are more than one trillion dollars in grants available to the Public Benefit corporations with a 501(c)(3). Only 2% of those dollars are available to the Religious Benefit 501(c)(3) and veteran organizations

A. The Obama administration, government, and the public and private sectors are all pro-church with the Public Benefit 501 (c)(3) in giving out grants.

ONE: The name of the corporation is PDI, Inc. The address for the initial registered office is 500 Arba Street, Montgomery, AL 36104 . The corporation is organized pursuant to the Alabama, Nonprofit Corporation Code.

TWO: This corporation is a nonprofit public benefit corporation and is not organized for the private gain of any person. The corporation is organized under the Nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation Law for charitable and educational purposes to aid the poor and disadvantaged individuals and families towards a life of self-sufficiency. PDI, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. The purpose of this proposal is to request an application for proposal in order to apply for funding. These funds would be utilized to implement an after school care program. This program will provide after school care for children between the ages of 6 to 17 years old in Montgomery County.


This program will provide tutorial, mentoring, computer literacy and counseling services. With the decrease of extended families, the increase in the rate of families moving, and more families experiencing stress, drug abuse and crimes; we have a concern that children in these families will experience high rates of delinquent behavior. Primary prevention and early intervention can help children increase coping skills and to emulate healthy behavioral patterns instead of negative ones. This program endeavors to lower the incidence of emotional disorders offering a balanced development program which stimulates each child’s intellectual curiosity and the desire for lifelong learning.


It also encourages self-esteem and confidence by recognizing the unique potential and worth of each child by reducing stress and promoting conditions that increase confidence and coping skills.


Finally, this program will provide developmentally appropriate programs that will stimulate each child’s intellectual curiosity and their desire for lifelong learning by providing various avenues of growth and development stimulation for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and after schools, in a faith based environment.


PROJECT VALUES AND PRINCIPLES

We value the parents as the cornerstone of a successful and productive community. The proper growth and development of children within the family structure from prenatal to adolescence is a proven asset to any community. The parents of Faith Day Care, Inc will be culturally and economically diverse and take many forms. Our aim is to provide all children with quality child care service.


PROJECT GOALS/OBJECTIVES

1. To provide quality, free or low cost child care for our parents

2. To promote socialization and the developmental language skills of each child.

3. To stimulate the Cognitive, Language, Gross Motor, and the Communication skills of each child.

4. To strengthen the family and to foster healthy growth and development of children from prenatal care to adolescence.

METHODOLOGY

1. Obtain referrals from public and private agencies.

2. 6:30-7:30 AM-Children sign-in

  • Informal snack or light breakfast in order to meet the nutritional needs for some children who missed breakfast at home; Free Play time.
  • Conduct health checks daily to anticipate ill children.
  • Maintain and monitor daily records of attendance for each participant enrolled in the project.

3. 7:30-8:00AM-Clean-up and Sanitize.

4. 8:00 – 8:30 Increase the socialization skills of each child.

5. 8:30-8:45AM Clean-up and bathroom time.

6. 8:45-9:15AM Study Time.

7. 9:15-9:45-Show and Tell Time. To develop language skills, children are encouraged to bring items from home and discuss with the other children in the group. This is also a time for children to discuss upcoming events or events that have happened in their lives.

8. 9:45-10:15-Children are introduced to colors, shapes and number as related to the learning environment. Children are placed into learning center during this time.

9. 10:15-10:30 AM – Clean-up time. Our staff are cleaning up the centers while the children are utilizing the restroom and preparing for outside play (if weather permits).

10. 10:30-11:15AM-Outside Play (If weather permits) or Free Play

  • Children are taught discipline and required to observe classroom routines, and respect for material and equipment.
  • Children are taught self-help skills such as cleanliness and washing hands.
  • Children are taught cultural and creative expressions.

11. 12:00-1:00PM. – Nutritional meals are served to the children daily during “Lunch” time

12. 1:00-2:30PM daily. Children will have rest time.

13. 2:30-2:45 PM - Informal snack

14. 2:45- 5:00 Assessment period for teachers

  • Teachers will assess the skills of the children between the ages of 3-5 years old.
  • Children ages 4 to 5 will be involved in pre-reading, pre-writing, and math skill development.
  • Lesson plans and activities will be prepared according to age groups.
  • During “Free Play”; children with explore the use of the play centers such as sand table, dramatic play, puppets, etc.
  • During “Center Time”, children visit the various centers such as Block, Learning, Computer, Library, Science, etc.

ELIGIBILITY

The eligibility criteria for participation in the Program are that individuals live in a radius of 30 miles. For those parents who receive free or subsidized child care, he/she would have to qualify by attending school or work to receive a scholarship. As long as the parent(s) is in school or working, the scholarship will continue until the child reached public school age and/or is expected in the public school system.


DESIRED RESULTS

  • To provide quality and affordable child care to parent (s).
  • To provide a variety of educational enrichment and enhancement programs for children and increase parent participation.
  • To increase the child self concept through cultural enrichment activities.
  • To provide all families with a means of getting Faith based learning for their children.
  • To provide an environment that is conductive to elevating a child to his/her fullest potential.

STAFF DESCRIPTION AND PROJECTED SALARIES

The Program Executive Director’s primary responsibility will be to oversee the program. The Program Executive Director will secure funding sources for various projects that will take place and will insure that the funds are spent appropriately. In addition, the Program Director will conduct program evaluations to insure that the project is conducted in accordance with the goals and objectives of the program.

  • Projected salary - $30.000.00 annually

The Administrative Assistant will be responsible for all front office duties. She will serve as a support for the Program Director and Teachers.

  • Projected salary - $18,000.00 annually

The day care providers/teachers (4) responsibilities will consist of but, not limited to providing various educational, enhancement, and enrichment programs or services. He/She will be responsible for developing and implementing programs that address early childhood education. He/She will maintain a file on each child /participant’s goals and their progress.

  • Projected salary: total of $ 50,000 annually (4) teachers

The Custodian will be responsible for the cleaning of the facility. The custodian will keep an inventory of all job related supplies needed and forward all request to the Administrative Assistant.

  • Projected Salary: $10,852 annually

After school teachers, will provide children with assistance in completing homework assignments. They will be available to assist the children in areas of difficulties. After school teachers, will maintain a report on the progress of each participant. Projected Salary: $12,000 annually (2) Tutors

This includes the cost of $30,000 for (2) vans

and the drivers salary of $5,000. In addition to

transportation being provided to and from the

center, participants will be taken on monthly

field trips to sites within a 50 mile radius of the center.


Conference and training                                                                                                                                     $3,600

These expenses in include airfare fees ($1,100),

training seminars ($1,200) and statewide travel

at a rate of .21 per mile.

The teachers and directors will travel to meetings

and training seminars during the year. These

activities will add to the quality of the program

and will provide the innovative ideas for continued

education and the success of the program.


Insurance                                                                                                                                                                  $2,300

The annual cost to maintain proper coverage on

the facility and users.
